AoMO2018 Draft Programme

You can now see the first draft of the AoMO2018 programme here: Draft Programme 0418.

As you will see, we have lots of exciting, interesting and innovative performances and contributions along with great food, fabulous events and a couple of nice surprises!

Please note this is a first draft and will be subject to change right up until (and as is common with AoMO, during the conference!).

We are asking all accepted contributors and stream convenors to double check their contributions have been included and have been given a ‘reasonably appropriate’ time allocation. Please recognise just how complex scheduling AoMO is. If we have overlooked anything, made typographical errors or even missed you off entirely please let Jenna know (jenna.aomo@gmail.com) asap. Similarly, if you are no longer able to attend let us know too! All changes need to be submitted by June 1st 2018, after which a provisional programme will be released.

GNOSIS 2020 – some interesting updates

1. GNOSIS 2020 BOOK PROJECT

Steve Taylor and I are delighted with the response from our network on our book project. Thanks to your amazing contributions we are signing a book contract with Palgrave Macmillan Publishers for 2 edited  volumes:

The volumes will be delivered in January 2018 and will be in print March 2018 in time for it to be launched at the OLKC Conference in April 2018 – see below details. It is so exciting that this now becomes one key collective publication that celebrates the work we are doing and offers some essential advancements to learning theory and practice as well, hence the link to OLKC.
We cannot stress enough that the success of the volumes will be subject to the quality of the content and we are working with authors closely to ensure that we have the best illustrations of how ABM and ABI are applied as innovative learning modes with evidence of the difference they make. We urge authors to work with us and to ensure that we meet the deadlines we are all working with.
We see these volumes as a fitting tribute to celebrate the life and work  of our friend and colleague Grete Wennes  to which the volumes will be also dedicate to.
2. OLKC Conference – GNOSIS 2020 SYMPOSIUM
The Organisational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities Conference (OLKC) is an established annual conference held in North America and Europe bringing together scholars and practitioners who are interested in advancing learning theory and practice. We are delighted to be hosting the 2018 OLKC conference in Liverpool 25-27 April 2018. The theme of the Conference is ‘Learning to Make a difference’. Please find all information here:

We want to use the opportunity of the OLKC Conference to launch our edited  book volumes  and also two other writing projects (Journal Special Issue and Handbook) that will follow. We are therefore, hosting as part of the OLKC conference a symposium.
Attached is the call for papers for the symposium and we urge both the authors of the edited  book as well as, other network members to submit their work so that we have the opportunity to continue to cease the momentum and impact of our collective work through the subsequent writing projects that we are using the symposium as a platform for advancing.
3. GNOSIS 2020 NEXT GATHERING – 27-29 April 2018, LIVERPOOL
We will align the OLKC conference with our next gathering to follow straight after the conference 27-29 April 2018. Our focus at this gathering is to elaborate the GNOSIS 2020 Research project on Resilience. See attached project description.
We will also use the opportunity of the gathering to lay the foundations for the Handbook of ABM/ABI. The opportunity to demonstrate our methods will also remain a vital part of our time together. We will also seek on this occasion to invite and learn from leading organisational practices in advancing the use of the Arts in business with where possible a dialogue with UNILEVER and their ‘Catalyst’ Programme.

AoMO 2018 Call for Streams is now open!

After a fabulous 2016 conference in Bled, Slovenia we are excited to announce that AoMO 2018 will take place in Brighton, UK (hosted by the University of Brighton). We are excited to be working with Dr Jenny Knight and Chris Matthews at the University of Brighton over the next two years.

The conference theme for 2018 will be ‘Performance’ so get your thinking caps on everyone! We are looking for papers, poetry, exhibitions, performances and anything else that will push, bend and challenge the way that we think, theorize and practice business and management.

As an artist, I began as a woodworker. I work with restored antique hand tools to produced functional furniture with modern aesthetic. My practice is evolving towards art installation; using traditional woodworking techniques to produce wearable, kinetic or interactive sculptures. As an academic, I made contributions on the influence of discourses and institutional culture in the evolution of shipping policies and markets. My current work proposes to view policy making as spaces for individual stakeholders to (re)appropriate the strong paradoxes embedded in their industrial identity. My residence will be the beginning of an exploration on how these two practices relate to each other.

 

In Bled, I will design and build a chair using locally available wood. I will work in situ with hand tools only aiming to translate some of the energy of the conference and its setting into a functional art piece. In doing so I will raise two questions. What about craft? While it encompasses all the artistic questioning of sense, it is necessarily rooted in technics, functionality and traditions. Does factoring these material dimensions changes how we think of art and organizations? And what about chairs? There are highly sculptural by nature and must work with the human body, but they are also highly political: often strong symbols of power. What paradoxes do they hold?

 

 

Emmanuel Guy is the AoMO Heather Hӧpfl Artist in Residence 2016-2018. He will be working throughout the conference and we encourage delegates to engage with him and his artwork as much as possible! Emmanuel will present ‘the chair’ on Sunday 4th September and speak about his craft, the conference experience and how he sees the Artist in Residency working for him and the AoMO community!portrait 1

Shuttle Service from the Ljubljana Airport

We organized shuttle from the airport Brnik (Ljubljana) to Bled on Wednesday, August 31. There are 3 options: at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm and the price is 15€ per person that should be paid directly to the driver in cash or by credit card. Should you decide to take the shuttle, please send an e-mail with your preferred timing to: bled.taxi@gmail.com. If you arrive earlier or later and would like to arrange taxi from the airport, you can send an e-mail to bled.taxi@gmail.com and arrange it directly for the price of 45€/car (up to 3 people).

 

On Sunday, September 4 we will organize shuttle from Bled (IEDC parking lot) to the airport Brnik (Ljubljana). . Poetry Slam 2016

Slam Poetry – A poetic contest where all are invited

 

Taking place on Friday September 2nd at 8.00 pm at the Art Cafe as part of “The Power of Poetry / Poetics” stream at the 8th Art of Management and Organisation Conference, Bled School of Management, Slovenia, September 1st – 4th, 2016

 

All poets unite

It goes for experienced, secret, hidden, and aspiring poets alike.

Go public with your poetry and you might become “Art of Management & Organization Poetry Slam Champion 2016”

 

The poetry slam at the Bled conference goes in two rounds. So what you need and are encouraged to do is to prepare poetry pieces for these two rounds (one for each round)

  • It has to be your own poetry.
  • You have to read it aloud as part of the competition.
  • Each poetry performance must last no longer than three minutes

Keep that in mind when preparing your two three minutes pieces of poetry.

 The poetry slam event is open to all participants of the Art of Management and Organisation conference 2016 both as contesters for the title and as part of the active audience in the poetry slam event.

The audience plays a crucial part in deciding, who becomes the fifth “Art of Management Poetry Slam Champion” in the history of the conference. Although there is a winner the Olympic motto applies to this contest: “It is not winning but participating that matters.”

 

How to join the slam poetry event

– If you are to be part of the audience just be there and be fair.

– If you are to join the competition and try to win the title:

– Either by sending an e-mail to Per Darmer: pd.ioa@cbs.dk

– Or by finding Per Darmer at the conference and tell him that you will be a participating poet at the slam poetry event. You can do that until right before the slam takes place 8.00 pm at the Art Cafe or until the slam is fully booked. So if you hurry you will have no cause to worry.
